Linear’s residential line covers a lot of ground, and the hinge and roller setup varies by series. The most common gates we work on in Rancho Cucamonga use the Linear LRA, LSO, and SL series slide operators, or the Linear Swing series (LSW and related models). Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches people: Linear slide gates use a top roller assembly that is sized to the gate’s total weight, not the operator model. A gate that weighs 600 pounds needs a different roller than one that weighs 300, even if both run an LRA operator. The roller bracket usually has a stamp on the inside face with a load rating or a part number prefix. If the stamp is gone, we measure the roller diameter and the bracket offset on site and match from there. For Linear swing gates, the hinge itself carries the load, and the most common failure in this part of Rancho Cucamonga is the lower hinge bearing, not the hinge leaf. • Visible wear on the roller itself: flat spots, elliptical shape, or scoring. By the time you can see it from the driveway, replacement is already overdue. The gate has been running metal-on-metal for weeks.
• Operator trips its obstruction circuit repeatedly for no visible reason. A failing roller or hinge adds enough drag to trigger the operator’s safety cutoff. The operator isn’t broken. The part it’s pushing is.

If the bracket is bent or rusted through, it gets fabricated or replaced, and the price moves up accordingly. DIY or Call Us?

You can check a few things safely on your own: look at the roller for flat spots, look for sag at the latch end, and run the gate once while watching and listening from a safe distance. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to replace a Linear hinge or roller yourself. These parts carry the full weight of the gate, and on a slide gate the roller is under load even when the gate is parked. If the gate moves unexpectedly while a roller or hinge is out, the damage to the operator, the gate, and you is not worth the savings.
