FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Rancho Cucamonga Owner’s Guide

When a FAAC gate hinge tears, a weld on the operator mount cracks, or the gate itself sags enough to drag the driveway, we repair or fabricate the part. In Rancho Cucamonga, most FAAC welding and fabrication jobs run between $180 and $650 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing an existing bracket in place, rebuilding a hinge, or cutting and welding a new steel section into the gate frame. We stock raw steel stock, hinge pins, and bracket plate on the truck, and most weld repairs are done the same visit. The way owners usually find us is a gate that suddenly sits lower on one side, a popping sound when the opener runs, or a crack that showed up after a windstorm or a kid climbed the gate.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with FAAC, but we work on more FAAC swing and slide operators in the Inland Empire than any other brand. When the mechanical structure around a FAAC motor fails, the operator gets blamed. Nine times out of ten, the issue is a weld that let go or steel that fatigued, not the board or the motor.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

The welding and fabrication work we do applies regardless of the FAAC model on the property, because the parts that fail are almost always the steel around the operator, not the operator itself. FAAC 400, 402, 412, 415, S700H, S800H, C720, C721, and 770 series operators all mount to steel brackets, hinge posts, and gate frames that carry real stress. In Rancho Cucamonga, where summer heat cycles metal daily and Santa Ana winds push against full-height gates, the pivot points and operator mounting plates are the first things to crack.

The easiest way to identify what you have is to open the operator cover and read the model plate. But the welding work doesn’t depend on the model number. It depends on the gate weight, the hinge condition, and whether the existing bracket is steel or cast aluminum. Cast aluminum FAAC 415 operator housings crack rather than bend, and we reference that when a replacement bracket is ordered. For steel gate frames, we weld with the same 6011 or 7018 rod we’d use on structural steel. For ornamental tube gates, we match the tube size, usually 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch square tubing, and repair the cracked section rather than re-skinning the whole gate.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question for brackets and hinge assemblies: FAAC-branded weld-in brackets are cast or stamped to match their operators exactly, and on a slide-gate rack mount or a swing-arm clevis, we recommend the OEM part if the geometry is unusual. On a standard gate hinge or a cracked post cap, a quality aftermarket steel equivalent is often stronger than stock and about 30 to 40 percent less. We tell you which applies before any metal gets cut, and the price is in writing before the welder gets lit.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate is rubbing or dragging at the free end. When a hinge weld stretches or the post shifts, the gap under the gate closes. The opener keeps working but works harder, and the board eventually overheats. We see this on older Rancho Cucamonga lots where the driveway has shifted and the gatepost no longer sits plumb.
  • The operator mount is moving when the gate runs. If you can see the FAAC operator body flex or twist while the gate opens, the mounting plate is cracking behind it. That plate carries the entire torque load, and a crack there only gets longer.
  • A rattle or pop on start or stop. That sound is usually a clevis pin, a hinge pin, or a weld that has opened just enough to let two steel surfaces slap against each other. It arrives before a full failure, and catching it at the rattle stage keeps the repair under $250.
  • Visible crack at any hinge, pin, or bracket junction. Surface rust inside a crack is a tell that it’s been opening and closing for a while. In Rancho Cucamonga’s dry heat, metal doesn’t rust quickly, but a cracked weld lets moisture sit in the gap year-round.
  • The gate’s travel sags at the far end of its arc. If the gate drops as it opens or the gap at the latch post grows, a hinge weld or the post itself is failing. The fix is not a limit-switch adjustment. That only masks the sag until the gate binds and burns out a FAAC capacitor.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what the pricing looks like on Rancho Cucamonga jobs, in writing, before we strike an arc:

Work Performed Typical Installed Range
Bracket or mount repair (weld-in-place, no new steel) $180 – $320
Hinge rebuild or weld-in hinge post reinforcement $240 – $420
Gate frame section repair (cracked rail, bent section, new tube welded in) $300 – $520
Operator mount replacement with fabricated plate $280 – $450
Full hinge replacement (both hinges, new pins, welded) $380 – $650

The spread comes down to gate weight, access to the work, and whether we need to cut out old steel or can weld new plate over sound metal. Labor is billed at an hourly rate that we show you before the job starts. Our welds carry the 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if the repair fails within a year, we come back and make it right without an invoice. Under Haven Standard Clause 1, the price is written and handed over before any work starts, and you get a photo log of the broken part, the repair in progress, and the finished weld.

What you can safely do is identify where the crack is and measure the gate’s sag. If a hinge has visible play, push lightly on the gate at the latch end with the opener disengaged and watch how far it moves. If the operator mount flexes when the gate runs, mark where the plate meets the post with painter’s tape and see if the gap opens. Those measurements help us quote the job accurately over the phone.

What we’d always do ourselves: any welding on a gate that is under spring tension, any structural weld on a post or hinge, and any repair that involves the FAAC operator mounting points. Gates are heavier than they look, and a weld that fails under load will crack fast and drop the gate. Also, a FAAC operator can be live even with the breaker off if there’s a battery backup in the housing. If you see a crack, the gate is telling you to stop running it. Call (909) 764-3720 and we’ll come look at the steel before it becomes a gate on the ground.
